The PhD in Management is the highest academic qualification offered by the Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya, aligned with SLQF Level 12. It is a research-focused degree aimed at developing scholars capable of producing original, high-impact research that contributes to theory and practice across management disciplines.
Rooted in the university’s mission to advance global knowledge and national development, this interdisciplinary programme offers rigorous research training across areas such as finance, HR, marketing, entrepreneurship, public management, and digital transformation. Candidates are guided by experienced supervisors and are expected to demonstrate scholarly excellence through a thesis that meets international publication standards.
PhD candidates must undertake a minimum of three years of supervised research and are encouraged to explore innovative, socially relevant solutions through their research. The programme prepares graduates for careers in academia, policy research, and leadership roles across public and private sectors.
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
A Master of Philosophy Degree in Management or related field.
A Bachelor’s Honours Degree, with at least a Second Class (Upper Division) standing from a recognized University and a master’s degree (SLQF 10) in Management or related field.
A Bachelor’s Honours Degree* from a recognized University or an equivalent qualification accepted by the University, and a master’s degree (SLQF09) in Management or related field, and at least six years of managerial experience.
A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or an equivalent qualification accepted by the University, and a master’s degree (SLQF 10) and at least six years of managerial experience.
A transfer from an M. Phil. Degree Programme conducted by the PGUM.
